Quinn has been doing remarkably better with using her utensils at meals. But after a few successful and failed attempts, all foods turn into "finger foods". She's allowed to go "all out" on bath night.

The new hangout

Just when I think she can't get sillier...she decides she's warm after our walk and sits in the fridge! :)
Not much new. She was playing a little too hard the other night and forgot she should stop when she sees the dresser and got a little noggin bump, but all is well. A few bumps and bruises shall occur from time to time! Her feet are getting bigger and her legs longer, so I'm sure it's tough learning how to keep walking and running with the growing body!! She's a pretty solid 24/2T all around. I tried an 18 month top yesterday and it came right off again. Some of the hand-me-down 2Ts are also too small. SO, looks like we may need some summer clothes after all! I have to look through what we have (yet again) and find out what we have and what we need. I did it 2 weeks ago and all the 18 month still fit! So much changing!!!
And Jill, she seems camera shy when it comes to bubbles! I even tried in the bathtub last night (bubble bath) and she was all "bubbo bubboooo" and I'd hit record and there was silence.
**sigh**
:)

Hola and Nightmares maybe??
As Quinn grows and becomes harder to entertain for a few minutes (much less hours)--(some days I wish she liked TV!!) ... I have researched more on child devo. One of the websites I've used since pregnancy is "baby center". This is what they have to say about 15 month olds....
"Other developments: A budding sense of humor, Mom vs. Dad, and nightmares
Everyone loves a clown, and your 15-month-old already realizes this. Once he recognizes that a certain behavior — dancing, crawling like a baby, doing somersaults — gets a positive response from you, he'll do it over and over not just because he can, but because he loves to be the center of attention. After a silly dance performance, for instance, he'll look around the room just to see what kind of effect his moves have had on the audience, and if he has everyone's attention, he'll offer an encore.
Don't be surprised if your toddler already seems to treat you and your spouse differently. Whichever parent he spends the most time with will be the one he demands more of and is hardest on. If Mom's around more, Dad will be treated like someone special, and vice versa. While this may make one of you feel jealous, know that it's normal and is your child's way of testing out his relationship with each of you. Family dynamics, and your child's shifting loyalties, will be more and more evident during the next few months as he becomes increasingly independent.
Finally, as toddlers begin to experiment with imaginative play, they also sometimes start to have nightmares. A 15-month-old is reaching an age where he can start to think on a symbolic level and is able to transform reality into fantasy (not that he could explain this to you!). It will be several years before your child can distinguish between dreams and reality. Since he probably can't use words to tell you about his dreams, you'll have to rely on unusual behaviors to alert you. Children who are stressed or anxious (usually related to tension in the family or problems with daycare or preschool) are prone to nightmares. If your usually sound sleeper awakens crying in the night and can't tell you why he's upset, try talking to him in a soothing voice and rubbing his back until he settles down.
At this age, all you can do is comfort your child and perhaps establish some sort of routine to banish the "monsters" from his room. The American Academy of Pediatrics suggests reading your toddler some stories about dreams and sleep, such as In the Night Kitchen, by Maurice Sendak, to help him understand that they're nothing to be afraid of."
I tried a cup in the crib with her last night. Not only did she drink it all and talk to it for an hour before she initially fell asleep, she drank it all, and then still wanted TLC at 3 am. For the record, it was 4 oz of water each time!! This girl is a thirsty one at night and during the day. The ped told me no more than 45oz of fluids a day (inc breastmilk) ... I think it is recommended for fear of ruining appetite with picky eaters at this age. She definitely isn't a picky eater!! We're due for her 15 month shots so I guess we'll see if there's advice from them.
Flights Denver to NYC are also running on time (about 10 minute delays), the snow has stopped and hopefully Mike will make it home today!!!!! We'll anxiously wait to watch updates on the flight status (what a life, right??). :)

Bruises and Twists
So, it happened today.
I slipped down our stairs...only 2...but it was a hard fall. Because Q was on top of me. She's fine. I think she bit her tongue...but no blood and only a few scared tears as I was in instant tears.
ME...however....ugh...at LEAST a bruised hip, neck and twisted ankle. Think something happened to my side and tailbone too.
Man that sucks. So much for the long walk this afternoon! Hopefully the car ride on Sunday won't be awful!
OH, and her top two eye teeth are poking through! So that's 8 on top and 6 on the bottom. And she still swallows most of her food whole....crazy girl!

Bridge and Juicy Lucy!
We skipped Grimaldi's as we didn't really really want to wait in line for an hour, to eat for an hour, and then walk in the chilly weather so we got a banana split from a Brooklyn Ice Cream shop down the road on the pier. It was super yummy...and huge...and we managed to take no photos of it. Guess we'll have to go back for another sometime soon!
It is kind of like pulling teeth these days to get a good photo WITH Quinn looking good too. It's hard to just concentrate on looking at the camera and not Quinn. Eh, we each got decent shots anyway!
Daddy and Quinn on the pier in front of the ice cream shop (yep, the lighthouse-looking thing is the shop!)

Mommy and Quinn before the journey across the bridge...yep, that bridge in the background!

It wasn't too bad...this photo was taken at about the upright part/whatever you call it part that you can see in the previous photo...on the way towards land again!
And I don't look totally freaked out do I?

Somehow Mike managed to get a shot with very few people in it. The bridge was pretty crowded. It was a pretty cool experience, and maybe next time I'll actually look up and enjoy the bridge a little more.
The bikers and runners made the trek a little more difficult as the majority of the people walk the bridge. I don't know that I'd have the desire to ever bike across it as people really can't walk without running into each other...much less having to keep an eye out for bikers who may hit you!
It was pretty windy and with the chill...it may have only been about 35 degrees or so. And, of course, Q insisted on sitting IN FRONT OF the wind shield so it really didn't help on the walk across the bridge. It did come in handy on our walk home. Mike and I were talking about juicy lucy's as we walked across the bridge and he managed to find a place that had them in Manhattan. It was another 30 minute train ride which meant at least an hour and half back home....but I was sooooo craving the juicy lucy that it was going to be worth it...as long as Q could handle it.
Well, she handled it just fine. It was a bar and she got to run around and eat mushrooms and burger and cheese and she loved it...I think. She loves being out and about really, so it was all good. Towards the end of the train ride she started to get cranky, but once we hit the pavement on our walk home from the subway...she was vegged out. And it was COLD and into the wind....burrrrr. But we made it home none-the-less!
I think I'm going to miss this city. Look at that view from the bridge! I love it. I really do! The view. Not the fact that it took us 2 hours to go about...hmmm....14.78 miles according to Mapquest. Gotta love trains, waiting, and walking to get around NYC.

Snack Pose
I don't know what to say about this video. But chocolate milk seems to be the key...how could I foget about chocolate?! She loves chocolate. We'll see if she ever puts the cup down now! Guess I'll really have to start watching that!
Part of my new theory to her waking up in the night is that she's SOAKED every time she wakes up. But she's really bad about wanting to drink water, juice, nurse, milk through the day; most of her daily fluids come right before bed. Of course, once she's awake, she's got to get fed a little bit before falling asleep again. Believe me, this is a better option than listening to her scream for 25 minutes in the middle of the night. At least to my hears and my sleeping...right now. THIS week, we're trying to change that a little bit to hopefully get her to be content with the 6 oz formula/milk at 11pm and sleep through every night. And I'm going to truly try the change and put back to bed to see if she really needs that 3 minute nursing session at 3am. Cross our fingers!
Dannie and Nate have been here this weekend. It's been nice seeing familiar faces again. I got an afternoon out with Dannie and we made a nice steak dinner on Saturday. Yesterday Nate and Dannie went to NYC to a camera shop and Otto while Q and I took Daddy to the airport.
We got back from the airport and Q crawled upstairs and knocked on the office door "dadadada" as if saying, dad, we're home, time to play. Guess she was a little sleepy when Daddy said goodbye at the airport!

Four Books?!
Q actually sat through FOUR books and then took an hour morning nap! AND one of those books I read THREE times...
Okay, so what's with my excitement here?, some of you may be saying. Well, it's a miracle Quinn sat ON MY LAP through FOUR books. Until just a few days ago, it was like pulling teeth to get her to sit and cuddle through one book. She's learning that books aren't just for chewing! And I'm loving it!
One odd thing though, and I was wondering if this was true of most kids... About 75% of the time, when she's looking through books on her own, they're upside down--but she still starts at the "front" cover as she pages through. Odd...but she still babbles as she flips through the book, telling her own story.

One of the best "toys" ever. It is good for at least 10 solid minutes of entertainment every day; usually longer.

Company Gone and Daddy's Home
I have A TON of photos to sort through with Q's birthday craziness! It really looks like someone threw up birthday all over our living room. And that deserves thanks to Grandma and Grandpa Rebarchik; Auntie Jen; Jim, Stacy & baby Thomas; Mommy and Daddy (of course); Great Grandpa & Nana Born; and Auntie Krissy, Uncle Bill, Abbie & WiNi. I'm probably forgetting someone. OH, and last night came home a present from Nate, Nikki & Claire; so that added to our living room chaos that had yet to be cleaned up completely. Thanks all for the gifts!
So, once I get time to sort through photos of dinner, desserts & presents, I'll post photos.
For today, though, we have a video of Daddy and Q playing before bed last night.
Wow, that took 10 minutes to load here....ENJOY!

Copy Cat!
She seems young to be repeating after us, but maybe not! She is almost 10 months old. This is new...as of yesterday! We've been practicing as it's one of the things we do in music class. She's a fast learner like her daddy! She performed it solo (without me promting her) for the nice couple behind us in line at Target yesterday.

Harley and Tears
I can't believe how fast she is growing. And I see her every day! I can only imagine what all you readers think as you look at photos and videos of her growing up! Whenever I pull out a shirt or onesie these days, I go, "This is going to be huge", and then it fits like a glove. FOR EXAMPLE, this 18 month onesie we got from Grandpa Chuck and Grandma Judy...

She was trying SO HARD to get on this box. This box will be gone this weekend! We are going through closets and boxes we never unpacked to see what treasures we can give to Salvation Army. We have found many!!
Also, I decided the living room needed a makeover. We'll see what Mike has to say when he gets home tonight!
Sorry most of the photos these days are of the back of her head, or her butt, or her back...but she's always on the go! By the time the camera is ready to go, she's off doing her next deed for the minutes. She's so goofy.
Whenever she does that cry, I don't know whether to laugh or be serious. As she is so very serious to get my attention and help her already! I hear this cry for various reasons through the day: change me, i want cheerios, i liked that give me more, help me climb this, help me eat this (when it's not meant to be eaten), open this door, close this door, it's too hot, it's too cold....to name a few things. Needless to say, she was hungry and sleepy at this point, so patience was at the bottom of her list.
As you can also see, she is getting MUCH sturdier on her feet! I'm pretty sure she was observing Seth on Monday because when she woke up Tuesday, she somehow knew how to stand steady by only holding on to (fill in the blank) with one hand. This morning, she was SOOO close to letting go of the toy box I was scared she'd just start walking! She tried to let go this afternoon and crashed to her bum and let out BIG tears (she's really good at automatic waterworks). She was fine, she just got scared and fell down.
Here, this morning, she was just leaning on her toy box/foot stool, no hands at all!!

She also made it to the stairs again this afternoon and as soon as she got there, she stood to her feet and started crying. It was a cry and a glance my way as if saying, "I know I shouldn't be doing this but I just can't stop myself" and she started climbing the stair again...didn't make it past the ground level because she was so uncertain...and I was there to stop her!
And thanks to Jill who mentioned the Little Debbie brownies in her blog the other day. I bought a box at the grocery store and they are too good for words! It's a good thing Tom posted about enjoying food the same day, or they may have been gone in one bite! Yes, I can savor a granola bar, but give me chocolate and it's GONE!

Nine Months and Counting
Diggin for goodies (her toy box for the living room that doubles as a footstool!!)

Relaxing on our walk around the gardens on Saturday...

Oh, and this bonsai tree is 50 years old!!

Well, as you can see (if you follow the ticker), I "missed" Q's 9 month birthday! We celebrated...no, not really. She goes for all her official measurements on Thursday, so look for an extended blog entry then!
Some more small details until then...let's talk about food.
About a month ago I started experimenting with giving Q whole foods instead of "#2 Gerber" and 'homemade' purees. She is now a little girl who wants to "do it herself" when it comes to feeding. So, why I just bought more baby mixed grain cereal and some Gerber purees for our trips out and about...I don't know.
She loves to feed herself---
--cheerios
--turkey
--green beans
--crackers
--noodles
--her bottle (!!!) (but not her cup...as she can't tip it quite right yet and she always goes to suck at the middle of the cup as the bottle nipple is in the middle...)
--mashed potatoes (that's a fun one to watch)
--well, really anything that she can put in her fingers then put in her mouth.
We gave her "big people" oatmeal this weekend and she loved it! So, now I'm really starting to wonder why I just bought the new box of baby mixed grain...we'll just have to give it to her from time to time!! She goes "aaahhh" or "ummmmmm" when she's all out of things to pick up on her tray. She will still eat purees, but I have to mix in something for her to feed herself while feeding her so she can be a "part of the process".
She's still nursing. About 4-6 times a day now, so down significantly. She does get water at meals (although most of it drips on her shirt). Anyone's thoughts on juice and if/when I should be giving her any. Obviously it would be 100% juice (as that's mostly what I buy anyway). We'll ask Dr. Raptis on Thursday.
Overall, she still has the drinking capacity of a bird, though. She only nurses for about 10 minutes at night and is only sleeping a long stretch at night about 1 night a week if I'm lucky. I think I'm going to trial 6 oz from a bottle before bed this week to see if that changes her sleeping habits. I really, really, really, would love a full week of 8 hours of sleep in a row! Of course, it was me that woke up at 3:30am this morning and said, huh, she's not awake to eat yet...and then 5 minutes later she was screaming bloody murder in her room. I've tried the "cry it out" thing ... no go with the little one. She's hungry in the middle of the night and usually nurses about 10-15 minutes and goes right back to sleep.

One of our favorite "Music Together" songs is "Play the drum" and she finds things around the house that sound like the drums in class and drums right along....And man, is it hard to tell that smile "no!" sometimes! So, we just let her go until the situation is dangerous.
I really can't believe how she's grown and changed since her baptism about a month ago. Time flies and I try to figure out where the time goes every day!
Mike has been home since Thursday (he worked from home on Friday) and Q actually cried when he dressed up in his work clothes and left this morning! She was going 'dadadadadadada'. Wanted nothing to do with "mmmmmmmmmmammmmmmmm". Well, we did get good news last week, Mike passed his exam! So, the third and final will be next June. Congrats to Daddy! As much as he seems to hate studying and taking exams, he's so darn good at it! We're very proud of him and can't wait for them to be over!
Now, we put on music and I asked her what she wanted to listen to...she said "aaahhh baaa" so we put on Abba. She thinks my dancing is amusing. So, whatever works to entertain the little one!! (Well, that's not cords or cat toys...)
On a growing note...there's not a size between 12 months and 18 months is there?? Most of her 12 month stuff is too small...18 too big. So, to answer Carol's question...the 18 month dresses should be good for the T squared wedding in 5 weeks...we'll see! If she's walking they'll be perfect. If she's not, she'll be REALLY dirty and it shall prove difficult to get her to cooperate for photos and all...that'll be an 11 month old for ya, right??!!

Some photos (video NOT loading...it's been an hour!!)
I took a no photos of our Q-child during our "nothing weekend". However, I had some from last week yet and I busted out the camera today because she's growing up so quick! Unfortunately, the camera did not come out until AFTER she ate some food that made some fellow territorial critters in the house not so happy with her. She said "mmmmmm" so I guess she was really hungry! That's what I get for making weekend plans with Dannie on the phone instead of being on consta-alert with Q's location.

Eating a cracker (she was really concentrating in this photo--then the flash hit her eyes and this is the expression I got!)
Side sleeper (yes, she actually sleeps in that crib with all that stuff and she has since day 1! I like to think it's why she wakes up happy (most of the time).)

Emptying drawers in the office

ALSO, I'd like to give a "congrats" shout-out to Beth and Scott on their newest addition, Theodore Thomas. He's adorable! Quinn and I hope we will have time to meet Teddy and Julia (the other latest addition to Mn friends) when we visit in October.

Lady Liberty Born and Quinn 3.2
Q woke up with the best hair today. I just thought, how fitting for our NY born Born on the almost 4th of July... her hair looks like the Statue of Liberty. Does anyone else see the resemblance?
The first shot as soon as the camera comes out almost immediately gets me this face from her...like, "great, that shiny box thing that blinds me, guess i better do that thing with my lips she calls a 'smile' so she stops flashing me but she will probably take about 40 more shots after that one so i hope she gets it now". And I almost never get the smile because I need to get myself positioned in whatever direction she's deciding to look.
