Happy Birthdays....

Quinn just wanted to say happy birthday, too. :-) Tuesday was Grandma Judy's birthday; today is Dannie's birthday; Robin, Jim, and Dre all had birthdays last week; Mike's cousin Matt had a birthday on Monday (yes his sister's wedding day!); and I'm sure there are a million more that have occurred recently or will occur soon (like Daddy's birthday the day before Father's day....)...anyway, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

d, Hope your drive back to MD is going/went well.

Although this photo wasn't taken today...she would've roasted in this today with the humidity! Not to mention it's a 6-9 month size and barely fit her here...she was in a 12 month onesie today! I think I'm going to officially 'retire' any 6 or 6-9 month clothes...they're just too tight and she seems miserable in them. I may need to go do more shopping so I don't have a naked baby all summer!!!

And, no D, she didn't get much quieter as the day went on and she only slept about an hour the whole day! It's gotta be a tooth! That and the fact that our routine that we finally developed since Az was disrupted by Daddy being home all day . . . she sure is a Daddy's girl when he's around. She was lying on the floor today making smiles at him and he was watching sports center and would look down and smile back every now and then. Well it was about 30-45 seconds and he didn't look at her and she just started BAWLING with big ole croc tears and everything...Mommy wasn't good enough...wouldn't stop until Daddy was holding her. Silly girl.

Green bean video and crawling attempts photos tomorrow! I'm sleepy and going to bed!

If anyone has good 1st and 2nd "homemade" baby food recipes, can you send them my way?? I just can't quite justify buying baby food when I have to make food for me anyway! Also any freezing/preparation techniques advice would be WONDERFUL!

No tickets in Ohio this time! :) Though we believe N's heater core is shot... Oh well. Sorry to hear she didn't get any quieter throughout the day. Hopefully when she gets those two teeth in she'll be a happier little girl!

Seriously when do you want to come visit? Or when is it a good time to visit? We need to baby proof our apartment within 25 days!!

Don't really have any "recipes" for baby food, I just mashed up whatever we were eating, before adding seasoning. I also had a stick blender which made it really easy to do when the kids were just starting out. Veggies like carrots, peas, beans and squash worked great. Broccoli was gaseous, and zucchini worked best without the skin, although I don't peel it now. Same with fruits, but heads up... Just like some will turn brown if exposed to the air too long, as soon as you blend them and add all that air, they turn brown immediately. I was startled the first time I did pears. I did cheat and simply use applesauce instead of softening the apples and then blending them.

You can use ice cube trays to freeze foods in smaller portions for her daytime meals. I usually only prepared things in the evening when I was making our warm meal. After stuff is mashed up, you can also keep it in the frig like you would any leftovers.

Meats don't really blend up well, but they do mash, and by the time they get introduced into her diet, she'll have more teeth.

Oh, and let's not forget the starches: mashed potatoes, rice and pasta. YUM!!!

Enjoy!
Love you all!

Marin liked homemade food so much that when we went on a trip and I bought Gerber food, she spit it out at every meal.

Here are a couple first foods:

The easiest is bananas. Mash ripe bananas (I found the mixer to be easiest) and freeze in ice cube trays.

Butternut Squash: halve, scoop out seeds, put face down on a pan, add about 1/2 inch water and bake at 350 for an hour. Puree in the mixer and spread in ice cube trays.

Once food is frozen, loosen by running warm tap water over the bottom of the trays and pop into big freezer bags and label. Thaw and use cubes as needed!

Those are the basics. Here is a website you might want to check out!

It ought to be right up your alley!

All of the above are good suggestions. I just cooked veggies and blended them...used canned fruit, too, like peaches and pears. Stew blends up well or any kind of casserole. Meats are hard to blend, but the Gerber meats are gross....the combination dinners are much better when starting out. I'll watch for sales on Gerber foods for when you're here in July. I have coupons!! :) :)
